Abstract

Infectious disease is a disease that can be caused by the presence of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. The most common infectious diseases are infections by bacteria, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Uncontrolled use of antibiotics causes bacteria to become resistant. Basil (Ocimum basillicum) leaves contain flavonoid compounds that have the potential as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytochemical content of two different regions, to determine the antibacterial activity of basil from two different regions and to compare the antibacterial activity of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. By using the post-test only control group design method. The results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction of basil leaves from two different areas was bacteriostatic. In this study, the highest inhibition zones were in the highlands and lowlands. for the highland S. aureus bacteria at a concentration of 60% with the best value of 8.5 and for the lowland area of ??60% with the best value of 8.32. While the lowland e.coli bacteria with the best value of 6.15 at a concentration of 20%, while the best value for the highland e.coli bacteria is 8.07 with a concentration of 60%. Based on the phytochemical test, the ethyl acetate fraction of basil leaves from two regions had secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and saponins. The results of the ANOVA statistical test showed that there was no significant difference in the diameter of the inhibition zone with the positive control fraction.
